Architect's Drawings Review & Redesign, Manchester

My clients knew there were aspects of their architect’s design which they weren’t happy with, some things they could pin point & some were more of a feeling that something wasn’t quite right. They were struggling to think of design solutions to resolve the issues and progress their project. They’d come to a standstill & asked me to review their plans.

"Rebecca had a very insightful perspective into how our space would work better for us as a family."

My clients shared the architect’s plans & the key areas they wanted me to review. I am always respectful of the architect’s work & I approach each review thoughtfully and with consideration. I reviewed their existing house floor plans and the drawings for their renovation and extension and I immediately saw ways to improve their design.

We met in their home for a relaxed consultation. Coming together gives my clients uninterrupted time to discuss their project with each other & with me. It gives me an opportunity to ask lots of questions & listen & find out what is driving their project, how their home is currently working for them, what they need & what they’d love. I draw a lot from our conversations so I can design what they need & what they may not have even considered possible.

“Her ideas helped focus us and pushed us to question how our design will enable us to live the life we want to.”

We are all individuals & our home should reflect this, not just aesthetically but spatially too. The configuration of space should support how we want to live in our homes so it flows & creates the spaces we need for ourselves and our family.

Focusing on the ground floor layout and one bedroom and bathroom, I further reviewed the architect’s drawings following the consultation & marked up proposed changes which I shared & discussed in person with my clients. Walking & talking through my proposed design with the clients in their home really helps to bring the design to life especially as many people don’t find understanding architectural drawings easy.

“Her creative ideas fitted so succinctly with ours that I cannot believe we didn’t draft Rebecca in sooner."

They were very happy with the amended designs & the walk-in kitchen pantry & snug area which I had been able to add by reconfiguring the layout & optimising the space. They shared my amendments with the architect & the drawings were submitted to planning.
